Scott was raised on the family farm near Fisher, MN. He has a degree from the North Dakota State College of Science in Industrial Electronics and a Farm Business Management Operations Management degree from the Northland Technical College. Scott and his wife, Bonnie (of 32 years) raised their two sons Austin and Matthew on their farm near Crookston, MN. They raise sugarbeets, wheat, and soybeans. Scott also owns and operates KB Manufacturing LLC.

Scott has served on the Board of Directors for American Crystal Sugar Co. since 2019. He has also served on the boards of the Fisher Fuel & Hardware Co., the Eldred Elevator Co., and the Andover Township board, as well on the local church council.
