Summer interns reside on the Tenley Campus of American University, located at 4400 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington, D.C. — just steps from the Tenleytown Metro stop.
Room Specifications
Typical rooms measure 12’ × 15’ and come fully furnished for two residents. You may rearrange furniture but must restore it before departure. Mini-refrigerators are permitted or available for lease.
Most students stay in double-occupancy rooms. Limited single rooms are available first-come, first-served. Roommate requests are accommodated when possible — early joint applications are encouraged.

Each floor provides everything you need for comfortable daily living, with a full-time Resident Director available for assistance.

Athletic & Recreation Facilities
Most university athletic facilities are available at no additional charge. Individuals under 18 require parental or legal guardian permits.
Check-In & Check-Out
Housing is available from early May through the first week of August (specific dates announced later). Early check-ins and late check-outs are not permitted. Front desk registration operates 24/7 during designated periods. Upon arrival, you’ll receive room keys, mailbox keys, parking passes if needed, and a welcome packet.

Not Allowed in Rooms
Personal A/C units, open-coiled appliances, grills, halogen lamps, waterbeds, microwaves, immersion coils, oil/kerosene/gas lamps, or appliances on multiple extension cords.
Kitchen-Only Appliances
Coffee makers, toasters, rice cookers, hot pots, and popcorn poppers may only be used in designated cooking areas.
