Washington, DC – On February 5, 2020, Dan Younggren of Hallock, Minnesota was elected President, Nate Hultgren of Raymond, Minnesota was elected Vice President, and LaMar Isaak of American Falls, Idaho was elected Treasurer of the American Sugarbeet Growers Association (ASGA) for 2020. The ASGA represents approximately 10,000 growers in eleven producing states. The three were elected by ASGA farmer board members from across the country who gathered for the ASGA annual meeting in Orlando, FL.

Dan Younggren has served on the ASGA Board of Directors since 2011, most recently serving as Vice President. Younggren said “It is an honor to lead such a world-class group of farmers during this critical time in our industry. The sugarbeet industry faced a devastating year in 2019 due to unprecedented weather damage. The sugar industry in Minnesota, and across this nation, is vital to thousands of family farming operations. Despite recent setbacks, we are looking to the future and are optimistic.”

Younggren and his wife, Diane, are fourth-generation sugarbeet, wheat and soybean farmers. His farming career began in 1980 with father-Larry, brother-Darryl and uncle-Harley. His family farm has expanded to include his cousin Erik, nephew Corey and most recently his son Blair. They also have a daughter, Kailey, who currently resides in Fargo, North Dakota.

Nate Hultgren has served on the ASGA Board of Directors since 2016. Hultgren said “I greatly appreciate the ASGA board placing its faith in me to serve as Vice President. It is a responsibility for which I have great respect. As we continue to advance goals in 2020, I look forward to making sure international trade and farm policies along with federal regulations provide on-farm value for our growers across the country.”

Nate Hultgren is a fourth-generation farmer. He farms with his father Duane and his brother Noah in west central Minnesota. Hultgren Farms raises sugarbeets, as well as corn, soybeans, alfalfa, sweet corn, peas, kidney beans and beef cattle. The farm is also a partner in a neighboring dairy, which milks 8,000 cows. Nate and his wife, Jaime, have 5 children: Lily, Nora, Elias, Ruby, and Oliver.

LaMar Isaak from American Falls, Idaho farms with his wife, Violet, mother Ester, brother Duane, son Conrad and daughter Ranae. They produce corn, hay, malt barley and wheat. Mr. Isaak is also a progressive leader in renewable wind and solar energy production in eastern Idaho. He also currently serves as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Idaho Sugar Beet Growers Association. He has been a member of the ASGA Board of Directors since 2005.
